The methods of exercise and strength training have tremendously evolved over the years. Exercise classes can be on a beginner, intermediate, or advanced level. The beginner level slowly introduces you to the various types of exercises as well as the terminologies that accompany them.

MUV Fitness Portland gives us a few examples below.

Endurance

Also known as aerobics, these exercises are meant to increase your heart rate and subsequently, your breathing rate. As such, they maintain your circulation system, heart and lungs in an optimal working condition.

Endurance exercises include jogging or brisk walking, dancing, and yard work such as digging, raking, and mowing.

Strength

Also known as resistance training or muscle training, this category focuses on making your muscles stronger. This increases and prolongs your body’s ability to carry out physical activities, such as walking up a staircase, without getting tired easily. They include; weightlifting and the use of an energy resistance band.

Flexibility

This increases the coordination between your muscles and brain, helping your body remain limber. Flexibility increases your freedom of movement for your daily activities as well as other exercises. Examples include Pilates, yoga, and stretching.

Balance

This category helps in creating a stable balance between the organs of your body, to prevent slips and falls. It is, therefore, suitable for senior adults.

You could also combine balance and lower body strength exercise to get the best balance. These exercises include heel-to-toe walking, Tai Chi, and standing on a single foot.

The categories listed here fall into multi-classes to ensure that you take it slowly and gradually. Doing all exercises at different intervals gives better results as they all have different benefits. As such, try mixing different types of exercises to get maximum health benefits.
